Sheila Greaves

Primarily, Sheila started painting as a therapeutic medium, the feel of paint on her fingers and the smile from paint in her hair added to the new experience of self-empowerment and of independent free expression; this sense of independence has grasped her firmly and provides an outlet for pent up fears and worries, of memories and desires for the present, and of hopes for her future.

After three years of constant work her need for escapism is far less the focus of her attentions than that of an all-embracing desire to paint, just for the sake of painting, it has become a necessary and driving force within her now; in her practice, Sheila epitomises Art as a tool, as her therapy, for her recovery from the past and as foundations for her future.
